ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s high Commissioner to Colombo on Wednesday presented the ‘Centenary Medal’ to 37 Sri Lankan military officers who had graduated from Pakistan’s Command and Staff College in the southwestern town of Quetta earlier this year.

The award ceremony was held at Maroon Hall, Defence Services Command and Staff College, Batalanda in Colombo on July 22, the Pakistani High Commission to Sri Lanka said in a statement.

Commissioner Maj. Gen. (Retd) Muhammad Saad Khattak pinned the medal on the graduates, which included the Secretary Defence of Sri Lanka Major General (Retd) GDH Kamal Gunaratne.

“On the occasion, which commemorated the completion of 100 glorious academic years of the Command & Staff College, Quetta, the High Commissioner hailed the everlasting friendly ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and renewed the commitment to continue working closely in all fields to boost mutual cooperation,” the statement said. 
 
Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka have wide-ranging cooperation in defence-related fields. Early this year, Pakistan’s Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi visited Sri Lanka separately and assured Islamabad’s support and cooperation in the fields of technical training and professional expertise.
